san diego update
from roving reporter
peter brimm

San Diego... The land where every sunset is just about perfect and the elderly like to get jiggy with it.

So there are five of us GSB folks down here in the famous (infamous?) border town of San Diego. Kurt Wolf (with wife Karen and young baby on the way), Mike Strahs (who is pumping iron like Ah-nold), Slava Pivovaroff (whom the entire female population of San Diego is coming to know and love), Sanjay Datta (bringing his laid back style to a place more laid back than even he), and yours truly (busy in the process of selling out to the man).

We have had the pleasure of having some out of towners float by and partake of our little bit of paradise. Andy Choy stopped in for a brunch after a wedding (and after waking up in his car?), Zinser made it through and saw the Reds paste the Padres in a real defensive battle by a score of 15-10, Matt Mooney came through on his way to Tijuana where he had to see a guy about some important papers (something about the New Zealand Sheep Show broadcast live via telecast to TJ?). Roberto and Daniela witnessed the birth of their son Diego in San Diego. Sarah Stein made it down for a weekender and said it changed her entire life and she now realizes what the true value of SoCal is. Kathy Lipscomb has been sighted in the quaint little coastal town of Encinitas. Rick and Heather Callister (with young Chase and the newest Callister, Reed), even made it down to our neck of the woods. These visits have been the high point of our times down south.

So basically what we're trying to say is life here is great, but it would be better if there were more of you out there actually here.

And yes, the rumor that Brimm was dancing salsa with the elderly (they prefer the term 'life expectancy impaired'), was true. I was in what was apparently the oldest salsa class in America (by average age of participants), and funny thing was they found out I just got out of Stanford, and they were asking me if I ever heard of a young man, Fabrizio Zappaterra, who went to college down in San Diego... It seems he made quite an impact on the blue-haired set in the city of sun. Older the berry Fab?

The San Diego Crew wishes you all well, and wanted to inform you that the average temperature in January is about 65. Our homes are open for you if you need a bit of sunshine in your winter.
